A quiet corner of the valley

Beck Pasture is one of the open grassland areas within Gledhow Valley Woods, sitting alongside Gledhow Beck as it winds through the valley floor. Framed by mature trees, it offers a peaceful spot to pause and take in the surrounding woodland and parkland.

Like the rest of the valley, Beck Pasture forms part of the wider habitat mosaic that supports the woods' rich wildlife, and it's a lovely place to see the changing seasons reflected in the beck and the fields around it.

Saved by the community

In 2016, the Friends of Gledhow Valley Woods purchased Beck Pasture following a crowd-funding campaign, saving the site from being used for new housing. It is now maintained as a nature reserve to improve biodiversity in the valley.

FGVW actively monitors other land in the valley and will, where possible, look to acquire and protect further sites in a similar way.

Visiting Beck Pasture

Beck Pasture is opened to the public a few times a year, including as part of the annual Green Fair. FGVW also hosts groups of children visiting from local schools and youth groups, giving them the chance to explore and learn about this special site.
