Each year the Friends' group helps local schools organise field trips to the woods to assist with their school projects. The children take part in a number of games and activities aimed at exploring the different habitats found in the woods and learning about the native flora and fauna.
From the school's point of view the trips help cover their curriculum, especially science, but the teachers can also use the visits in other areas such as literacy. From the Friends' point of view they also give the children some hands on experience of their local greenspace. Many of them rarely visit these places, and have few opportunities to learn about or gain respect for them.
If you are connected with a school which might be interested in organising a visit to Gledhow Valley Woods, please contact us for more information. For examples of the kind of activities that take place on these trips see the Events Gallery.
