3. Matters Arising

  • Japanese Knotweed
Martin has contacted John Casey who has agreed to spray the knotweed again.
  • Austrian Scythe
The Group has bought an Austrian scythe. Martin is currently reading the lengthy instructions on how to use it.
  • Bat Walk
A bat walk has been organised for Friday 21st September at 7pm.
  • Fungus Foray
A Fungus Foray has been provisionally arranged for Sunday 19th October 2008.
  • Graffiti
Martin agreed to contact John Casey regarding removing the graffiti and moving a tree trunk in the meadow as a car has been seen gaining access to the area. Joan mentioned that the memorial plaque on the bench had been defaced.
  • Grass & Tree Cutting
Martin agreed to thank John Casey for the excellent grass cutting that had taken place several times this year. Martin passed on Steve Allen's details who could help with arranging to cut back the trees on Gledhow Valley Road. Mike has been busy cutting back trees around the lake and benches to open up the view more and give more light.

4. Correspondence

Joan received a well-argued response to her e-mail regarding the poor quality of the Open Heritage Literature.

5. 106 Grant Update

Chris Bolam has been keeping a running total of what has been spent. Wood and stone for October's Action Morning have been ordered. Also, the benches have been ordered which the Group hope will be delivered for November's Action Morning. In December the Group may do more path work so need to put in an order for some new tools. Mervyn agreed to do an inventory and put a list together of what tools and litter pickers are needed.

6. Action Mornings

The next Action Morning is 23rd September which will consist of wild flower planting. The wild flowers have arrived. The Group are also expecting 2 tons of top soil and 1 ton of stone to be delivered. Some holes have been dug in preparation by some Group members. More wheelbarrows are needed.

The Action Morning on Sunday 14th October will consist of path work near Gledhow Valley and Allerton Grange Way and topping up in some areas. Please meet at Allerton Grange Way near the gas sub-station.

The Action Morning due on Saturday 17th November may consist of path work if the benches don't arrive in time.

An issue arose concerning safety at Action Mornings due to an incident with a jogger in the woods who fell due to work taking place there. The Group decided that in future the area being worked on needs to be taped off, especially when it involves pathways. Also the Group agreed to get some safety cones. It was agreed that anyone working on a path needs to wear a high visibility vest and a hard hat.

The Action Morning due on Sunday 11th November has been moved to Saturday 17th November to avoid Remembrance Sunday.

Next Action Mornings

  • Sunday 23rd September 2007
  • Sunday 14th October 2007
  • Saturday 17th November 2007
  • Saturday 8th December 2007

7. Heritage Open Days

The Group discussed whether it was worthwhile to do both the Chapel Allerton Festival and the Heritage Open Days and also whether the current format was working. There was a mixed reaction in the Group with some agreeing that it was better to do both the Heritage Open Days and others suggesting that just one was enough.

It was agreed to not take part in the Chapel Allerton Festival next year and to open the Bath House for just the Sunday from 1pm to 5pm. Joan suggested more advertising with posters was needed. Adrian had received an offer of borrowing period costumes for the day which was well received by the Group. Mervyn suggested buying a pump to clear out the water from the Bath House to enable the Group to clean it properly.

Joan had offered, on behalf of the Group, a donation of money and pansies to Avril for use of her water and electricity in cleaning the Bath House. Avril donated the money back to the Group.

The Herbalist has suggested charging for the Herb Walk in the future. He also mentioned some of the group had difficulty hearing him due to the large volume that had turned up for the walk. The Group agreed to discuss these problems and resolve by next year.

8. AOB

Tesco hasn't sent in the grant promised for the FunDay yet. Martin agreed to chase. The Group hasn't received the grant for the FunDay from the Floral Fund yet.
