Minutes of Core Group Meeting
7th Jul 2014

1. Apologies for Absence

2. Minutes of the Meeting Held 7th May 2014

3. Matters Arising
- Tree Felling
Some trees have been "spotted" for felling by the Forestry Commission. It is hoped that the felling will go ahead later this year. Woodhouse Ridge has had similar work done to open up certain areas and let light in. This has improved the undergrowth in these areas and the Ridge looks much better for having this done. Unfortunately when the work was first completed there the area looked terrible, so when our work begins we can expect a few enquiries from the public and maybe some complaints.
4. Correspondence
Mike received a letter of thanks from a local Brownies group, along with a cheque for £30 for the Group. He recently led a walk for them, showing them the flora and fauna of Gledhow Valley Woods.
We received correspondence from Leeds Parks & Green Spaces who are holding their AGM at Westonia Pavilion, Cross Flatts Park, Beeston on Wednesday 9 July from 6.30-8pm. Adrian believes Pete is going to attend.
There was also an invite to the Moortown Community Group's Annual Open Meeting on Tuesday 15 July at 7.30pm at the Immaculate Heart Church on Harrogate Road.
5. Action Mornings
- Sunday 11 May 2014
May Action Morning was well attended, with 22 volunteers. Some litter picked, others moved 4 tons of hardcore to help repair the path and steps near "Dorothy's Bridge" and another group cleared mud off "Mrs Hudd's Steps".
Future Action Mornings
Proposed dates and tasks (subject to change):
- Sunday 13 July 2014
Meet at junction of Gledhow Lane and Gledhow Valley Road. Work may include completing the steps near Dorothy's Bridge or the steps in front of Hillside.

6. FunDay 2014
There will be a FunDay meeting in The Three Hulats on Friday 18 July at 7pm. This will give us a chance to discuss this year's event and look at finances. There will be a buffet.
7. AOB
- Audrey's Meadow
Mervyn queried what are we going to do regarding work on "Audrey's Meadow"? There seems to be difficulty getting quotes and the original work done in that area has now overgrown again. Can we get quotes, or should we think of something else? Malcolm has not mentioned anything as he knew we were trying to get these quotes but as it is now a year since Audrey died and we are no further on it is a bit embarrassing. We could offer to give the money back, although Malcolm was looking forward to the meadow so it seems unlikely he would want us to do that. Should we talk to him about it?
- Tree Fungus
Mike was concerned that some of the trees locally are showing signs of fungus, etc. Should we get Justine to have a look at the problems?
- Damaged Handrail
Concern was raised that the handrail on "Mrs Hudd's Steps" has been badly damaged. Should we repair it or take it down?
- FGVW BBQ
A date has still not been confirmed for the BBQ at Paul's.
