The Friends of Gledhow Valley Woods' 20th Annual Family FunDay was very successful despite a last minute dip in the weather near the end of the afternoon. Hundreds of local people came to join in the fun.
As always, its aim was to help raise awareness about the Woods and the Friends group, as well as provide afternoon of fun, activities and entertainment focussing on the local woodland and the plants and wildlife that live there. There were loads of displays, activities, games and entertainments to keep the whole family busy, not to mention home-made refreshments and live music!
Activities and events included the following...
- Live music from The Friendly Brass Band
- Sam's Safaris
- Sandhills Alpacas
- Hope Pastures
- Birds of Prey
- Climbing Wall
- Bees and beekeeping
- Plant sale
- Book stall
- Circus Skills
- Nest box making
- Grand raffle
- Tin Can Alley
- Firefighters
- Hook-a-Duck
- Face painting
- Start birdwatching
- Tombola
- Home-made refreshments
- Find out what the Friends are doing to enhance your local woodland and lake.
- FGVW gift stall including coasters, mugs, postcards, greetings cards, badges, etc.
- ...And much more!
The event was only possible due to the dedication and enthusiasm of the Friends Group and other members of the local community, together with the generous donations made by those attending.
We would like to say a big "thank you" to everyone who helped... those who spent hours assembling tents all morning; those who provided home-made food for the refreshments tent and prizes for the raffle and tombola; those who helped run the stalls and activities, and sold raffle tickets; those who helped pack everything away at the end of the day; and the many local businesses which generously donated raffle prizes. Without this help the event would not have been possible.

Click on an image to see a larger version (it should appear in the centre of the screen on a dark background). Whilst viewing a large version, you can move on to the next image using the "Next" button (which appears when you move your mouse cursor over the right-hand side of the image) or by hitting the right-arrow key on your keyboard. Move to a previous image in a similar manner using the "Prev" button (which appears when you move your mouse cursor over the left-hand side of the image) or by hitting the left-arrow key on your keyboard. When you've done viewing the large images, leave by clicking on the "Close" button or by hitting the "Esc" key on your keyboard.
If you can't move between photos it may be because you did not wait until the whole page had finished loading before clicking on an image - just go back to the main page and wait until all the little images have finished appearing. Another possible cause is that JavaScript is unavailable on your web browser for some reason - in this case the larger images will open as single images and you will not be able to use the extra image browsing functions.
