26 October 2016 FGVW has applied for an Aviva Community Fund grant of £1,000 and we need your help. Our project to put in fencing and hedgerows around the newly acquired field is listed on the Aviva Community Fund website. Projects with the most votes will be awarded the grants. 12 July 2016 The Friends of Gledhow Valley Woods' 17th Annual Family FunDay was very successful, and once again we were very lucky with the weather. We had brilliant support from the local community and hundreds of local people came to join in the fun. Photos can be seen in the Events Gallery. As always, we would like to say a very big "thank you" to everyone who helped... those who spent hours assembling tents all morning; those who provided home-made food for the refreshments tent and prizes for the raffle and book stall; those who helped run the stalls and activities, and sold raffle tickets; those who helped pack everything away at the end of the day; and the many local businesses which generously donated raffle prizes. Without this help the event would not have been possible. Details of what happened at the FunDay, including photographs and a 360 degree panorama of the event in full swing are now available in the Events Gallery.

26 May 2016 The Friends of Gledhow Valley Woods invite you to their 17th Annual Family FunDay! The FunDay brings local people together for an afternoon of fun, activities and entertainment focussing on the local woodland and the plants and wildlife that live there. There are loads of displays, activities, games and entertainments to keep the whole family busy, not to mention home-made refreshments and live music! When & where:

Please can you help? We badly need volunteers who can help out on the FunDay either by bringing food for the Refreshments stall, books and DVDs for the Book Stall, helping to put up the tents and marquees in the morning, or helping to look after the stalls or sell raffle tickets in the afternoon.
It doesn't matter if you can only spare an hour ...all help will be gratefully appreciated! Have a look in the Events Gallery to find out what happened at last year's Family FunDay.
20 May 2016 Following the appeal for funds to buy the meadow we are happy to announce that one of our bids was successful and the field has now been secured. Formal ownership will pass to FGVW as soon as we have completed the required change from an unincorporated group to a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO). We will keep everyone informed on progress, but in the meantime we would like to say a huge thank you again to everyone for their phenomenal support without which this fantastic outcome for the woods and our community would not have been possible. We would also like to apologise for not saying anything sooner, but we had to wait until the sale completed (earlier today) before we could make the announcement.
12 April 2016 An FGVW Extraordinary General Meeting is to be held on Sunday 17 April 2016 (7.30pm onwards). Please note that the EGM is being held to discuss the FGVW becoming a charitable body. All other business will be dealt with at our regular Core Group meetings. The Three Hulats Pub (13 Harrogate Road, Chapel Allerton) has kindly agreed to host the meeting once again. All are welcome to attend.
06 April 2016 We're trying to raise £28,500 to purchase a meadow threatened with development on Gledhow Valley Road. The sale of the meadow next to Gledhow Valley Woods gives us a fantastic opportunity to protect and improve the natural environment for everyone living in the area as well as for future generations. A housing application for the land was recently turned down but we fear that people may buy it in the hope that planning permission will be granted at a future date. Someone else is interested in using it for light industrial use. These would have a severe detrimental impact on this green space in the middle of Gledhow Valley. FGVW would like to buy the meadow. Lots of ideas have been suggested for the field including a wild flower meadow, woodland with picnic areas, or a community orchard. But for now the priority is to raise money to secure the site for local people. Bids must be submitted by Friday 22nd April so we have very little time. 28 January 2016 The FGVW Annual General Meeting is to be held on Friday 11 March 2016 (7.30pm onwards). Please note that the AGM is held to receive annual reports and to elect officers only. Other business is dealt with at our regular Core Group meetings. The Three Hulats Pub (13 Harrogate Road, Chapel Allerton) has kindly agreed to host the meeting once again. All are welcome to attend. The positions of Chair, Treasurer and Secretary are open for voting, but nominations for these posts must be received before the day. As space is limited it would be helpful to know who is attending so please, if possible, contact us to let us know you're coming.
