14th FGVW Family FunDay - Best One Yet!
The Friends of Gledhow Valley Woods' 14th Annual Family FunDay was probably the best one yet, greatly helped by the hot sunny weather (sadly missing from the previous few FunDays). Hundreds of local people came to join in the fun, and photos can be seen in the Events Gallery.
As always, we would like to say a very big "thank you" to everyone who helped... those who spent hours assembling tents all morning; those who provided home-made food for the refreshments tent and prizes for the Tombola, Raffle and Pick-A-Bottle stalls; those who helped run the stalls and activities, and sold raffle tickets; those who helped pack everything away at the end of the day; and the many local businesses which generously donated raffle prizes. Without this help the event would not have been possible.
We would also like to thank The Three Hulats, J. & M Tree Services, Tesco and Yorkshire Water for their generous support of the FunDay.
Details of what happened at the FunDay, including photographs and a 360 degree panorama of the event in full swing are now available in the Events Gallery.

Roundhay Gardens Ideas Trail Coming Sunday 23 June 2013
Presented by Roundhay Environmental Action Project (REAP) Gardening Group
Following the success of this event last year, gardens in Roundhay will once again be open to visitors on Sunday 23rd June, 2013 from 1pm-5pm
Do you love your garden be it large, small or tiny?
The hope is to include some new gardens in the trail this year. The REAP Gardening Group are definitely not looking for immaculate "show" plots, just ideas, experience, work in progress and even mistakes that you would like to share with others. Last year visitors enjoyed and were inspired by:
- Fruit & vegetable growing
- Interesting designs
- Imaginative planting
- Chickens and bee keeping
- Native wild flowers
- Ponds and bog gardens
- Unusual plants
- Plants to attract insects
- Interesting wildlife (e.g. newts and hedgehogs)
- Good use of small spaces
- Gardens for children
- Creative art pieces
- Recycled containers and building materials
If you want to take part and open your garden, please contact Sue Tuffin on 0113 266 2533 or by e-mail to sue@suetuffin.co.uk to find out more.
Visitors are needed too!
If you are new to gardening or want some fresh ideas put the date in your diary now. Come and see what your neighbours are growing! There will also be activities for children, refreshments, plant sales, advice and chat.
Follow the trail around Roundhay with the official guide and map. These will be available from the Oakwood Farmers Markets in May and June, as well as from various community locations.
No entry charge. Donations to St Gemma's.
Be inspired and join our growing community!
